Activity for 3rd Verse of "As a Child of God"

This Sunday I'm going to bring my "Service Box" to church and use it to teach/review the third verse of "As a Child of God."

In my own home I'll happily serve
I'll strengthen my family by my good works.

We'll pass the box from person to person as we sing, then when the piano stops, we'll stop singing and the person with the box gets to open it, choose an item and tell us how they would use it to serve their family.

I plan on using lots of positive encouragement, helping them think of the things they do around the house and maybe give them some new ideas. Teachers are also great at helping the little ones think of things they can do. I plan on challenging the older kids to think about how they can actually strengthen their family using these things, like helping without being asked or without complaining so there is a good feeling in their home.

It's important to choose a box that even the little ones can manage to lift and move and open. A lunchbox would be fun!

Objects in my "Service Box"
Spoon-set the table, empty the dishwasher
Can of food-help put groceries away, make dinner
Book-read to a sibling
Pencil-do homework, help a sibling with homework
Card-write a thank-you note
Cup-set the table, take a drink to a family member
Screwdriver-help dad
Sock-help fold or put away laundry
Sponge-clean the bathroom, wipe the counters/table
Stuffed animal-play with a sibling, clean up toys
Spatula-help make dinner, do the dishes
Game pieces-play a game with a sibling
Toys-share toys, clean up toys

I'd love to hear your plans!
